PWC Slalom Championships

IntroductionSouth Meath PWC and Power Boat club hosted round 2 of the Jet Products / Yamaha PWC Slalom championships on Sunday 17th of July. The event was the result of many months of planning by the club. Following on from a very enjoyable weekend for Round 1 of the championships which was held as part of the Enniskillen Lough fest weekend on 25th and 26th of June the club was keen to make Round 2 an equally successful and enjoyable occasion. One of the main reasons for choosing Hodson bay was its central location. Our club also uses Bay sports at Hodson Bay as our PWC training centre.  Bay Sports supported the club in planning the event and they held an open day on the day of the championships whereby they offered free of charge on the water activities such as Kayaking, Sailing, Paddle boats, fun on the Water trampoline etc. The CompetitionThe event attracted competitors / spectators from Northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland.  The 25 Competitors who took part were members of three clubs.1.     South Meath PB and Powerboat club2.     North West PWC Club3.     Lough Derg Jet ski club. The event was run in accordance with the time table set out in the event management plan:   The use of a PA system on the day proved very beneficial in both keeping competitors notified of their place in the running order and keeping them and the spectators informed of their times after each run through the course. The overall results from round 2 are as follows:

North West PWC 60 Points

South Meath PWC 50 Points

Lough Derg PWC 19 Points

The competition was very close with as little as 0.1 of a second separating some of the times. The overall position after two rounds of the championship is as follows:

North West PWC 120 Points

South Meath PWC 91 Points

Lough Derg PWC 35 Points

This was a very successful event for the club it is our second time to host the event .The Waterways Ireland sponsorship this year allowed the club  to make the event bigger and better. However without the dedicated effort of the members of the club who give up their free time for their sport and the competitors who travelled from far and wide at their own expense it would not have been possible. It was great to have the support on the day with representatives from both Waterways Ireland and the Irish Sailing Association in attendance to show their support for the PWC community. On the day there was fun and entertainment enjoyed on the water all along the water front of Hodson bay.  AcknowledgementsOur sincere thanks go to the following:·        Waterways Ireland for their sponsorship and support of the event.·        Bay sports for their support and for holding an open day on the day of the event.·        Lough Ree Sub Aqua club for providing a safety boat.·        ISA for providing the three ISA training PWC’s  for display / demonstration ·        All those who sponsored prizes.·        The competitors of the three clubs who took part in the event.
