A few of us went for a run with some of the Lads from the North West Club on Saturday 27th Feb. We caught some air off the waves and went on a run past Mullaghmore now famous for 50ft Surf waves and onto inishmurray Island. Weather was fab which made a great day out even betterCheck out pictures under south Meath tab in photo gallery or watch the video footage on the following youtube line http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDt9WxCCF9s. 2009 ISA club Slalom Fest
The first ISA affiliated cub slalom fest took place in Killaloe on 20th / 21st of November. Three clubs took part, Lough Derg, South Meath and the North West. The ISA ran a training day on inshore costal water navigation on the Saturday this was a full day course given by Denis Dillon. The course was well attended by members form all clubs and content and presentation was excellent. We all went away with the necessary skills to plan and navigated a safe trip around our inshore coastal waters. Thanks again to Denis and the ISA for giving the course.
After a few social drinks in Joe’s ‘Sports Bar’ among other hostelries around Balina and Killaloe on Saturday we were up relatively early on Sunday morning and headed out to two mile gate where Uel and the crew spent a busy morning setting up the Slalom course. After all the recent rain the waters had covered over the slip. However the North West crew had a quad which was used to launch the skis. With all the skis in the water we were given a briefing on how to run the Slalom and a chance to practice the course.
The event was broken down into three categories of skis.

Each competitor was given two runs through the slalom with their best time recorded results table below:

South Meath Jet Ski Club – October Bank Holiday weekend 2009
One of the last planned club events of 2009 was for a run down the Shannon from Leitrim Marina on the October bank holiday weekend. As it turned out Longwood GAA club won the Junior A county final on the Sunday so the numbers from Longwood were down to one Ski following the celebrations that took place on Sunday night. Several other families including the Charles, Hoey and O’Shea’s travelled down for the weekend with the Stagg’s and O’Connor’s making it down for the Monday Run. Des also travelled down on Sunday and both he and Eugene went about celebrating Longwood’s win in Carrick on Sunday night . . .
We gathered on the marina around 11ish on Monday and three skis and three boats full of family and friends headed off down the river towards Carrick. We went onto Albert lock with the intention of heading on to Dromod but the lock keepers lunch break extended way past 2pm and as there was still no sign of him 20mins later we decided to head back to Carrick as we wanted to make sure we got back to Leitrim Marina before dark. We stopped over in Carrick and got Lunch in the Landmark on the way back through. The food and service was very good especially since we were such a large group. After the lunch we loaded back onto the boats and Skis and made it back to Leitrim Marina with 20min of daylight to spare. A good decision made not to go through the lock !
This is probably the last run out with the boats for 2009, as they will be taken out of the water shortly for the winter months. We had some great days out and are looking forward to next year. Pictures from this latest event can be seen under the South meath gallery tab.
Next on the agenda is a number of training days throughout the winter months including, Small craft inshore, VHF radio and ISA / RYA instruction on safe use of PWC craft.

Weekend away to Terryglass on shores of Lough Derg |

Tuesday, 25 August 2009 |
South Meath Jet Ski attend Terryglass arts festival weekend August 2009 The club spent the weekend of 21st to 23rd of August in the scenic village of Terryglass on the shores of Lough Derg. We had taken a couple of holiday cottages for the weekend some of the crew headed down on Thursday while all of the rest arrived down on Friday evening. The Terryglass arts festival was on over the weekend, which brought a plenty of people and a good buzz about the village. We toyed with the idea of heading out on the water on Friday evening decided to go out for dinner and drinks instead. We woke up to a brilliant sunny Saturday morning it wasn’t long until the fry was on and with the bellies full we headed for the marina to launch the seven skis, which had made the journey. With the Skis in the water we headed upstream towards Portumna where we stopped for a picture at the swivel bridge. On up the river then to the lock. It wasn’t long before we made Banagher with FZR’s taking the lead most of the way. We passed some protesters at the power station on the way to Shannon Bridge and we came across the Garda Rib which was on duty in Shannon Bridge for the day. We had a good chat with the Garda Crew and got some insights into their duties and the craft they use. After that we headed for Clonmacnoise where we pulled in for Lunch. After lunch we turned and headed back down stream to Terryglass. We were impressed with the amount of wakeboarding boats out on the river around Portumna and Terryglass. We had the boards with us so we spent the rest of the evening boarding. We chatted away with some of the other boaters gave some of them a go on a Ski or a tow on a wake board. We even ended up towing a cruiser back into the Marina, which had broken down. There were great activities all day based around the arts festival, which ended with an impressive fireworks display down on the marina. We finished the night up in Paddy’s bar at some early hour of the morning. It was a wet day on Sunday so that along with the heads being a bit sore led us to passing up on the planned run down the lake. Not to worry as we all agreed it was a great weekend and we will be heading down again for the festival in 2010.
